In the 1980s, political scientist Robert Axlerod ran a
number of computer tournaments to try to discover which strategy had the (overall) best chance of success.(1) To everybody’s surprise that turned out to be cooperation.
So, what everybody needs to know about cooperation is – even computers know that if you cooperate you increase your chances of winning.
