We think of art as something esoteric.
Something mysterious.
Not connected to ordinary matter.
But it’s not true.

Beautiful music is made from ordinary materials. The leap from the ordinary to the extraordinary is all in application. It’s about how the ordinary is taken and meticulously and lovingly transformed with the intention of producing something much, much greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Is that true of us too? Can we transmute our ordinariness into something wonderful?

  1. Your description of music made me think of food, and how my favorite things to eat are always simple, basic combinations of a few wonderful ingredients. And, yes, the best moments in life seem to involve experiences and interactions that are uncomplicated — the ordinary things we have in common.

  2. I like the idea of those ordinary things being the threads that connect us as well – thanks.

  3. That was an intense and beautiful video, as is your writing about ordinary materials and art. I loved your opening statement, especially:

We think of art as something esoteric.
    Something mysterious.
    Not connected to ordinary matter.
    But itโ€™s not true.

So simple. So thoughtful. Thank you for creating this, CR.
